10 Ways To Use Coconut Oil In Your Beauty Routine

It’s no secret we’re big fans of coconut oil at Kelapa Organics; our range of Australian Made natural skin and hair products are based on this incredible oil. Is there anything it can’t do?

Here are 10 ways to up your beauty game with coconut oil.

Makeup remover

It may be surprising to know but coconut oil makes an excellent makeup remover! Even waterproof mascara can be wiped away with this incredible natural cleanser. Either apply the oil to a cotton pad first or directly to your skin. Massage in small circular motions to dislodge makeup; especially mascara.

Tinted lip gloss

Transform coconut oil into tinted lip gloss with a little of your favourite lipstick. Just add a little of the lipstick to a small pot of coconut oil and room temperature (liquid), mix together and add more lipstick until you reach the colour you’re happy with. Let set in the fridge and voilà, you have a lovely, natural-looking gloss!

Lip scrub

Prep lips for you new gloss by using coconut oil as a scrub. Simply mix together 2 tablespoons of brown sugar (the sugar needs to be fine, big granules are too harsh) with 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and ½ tablespoon of honey. Apply this delish mixture to your lips rubbing in small, circular motions. The result? A super soft pout

To shave your legs

Ditching your shaving products in favour of coconut oil is a great way to reduce the number of toxins in your beauty routine. After you’ve showered, put your legs almost dry, leaving a little moisture. Put a small scoop of coconut oil in the palm of your hands, warm it up then rub onto your legs. Get a close shave with a sharp razor and rinse the blade between strokes. The coconut oil will not only help the razor glide smoothly but also be incredibly moisturising for your skin and avoid any razor burn.

Cuticle Oil

Struggle with cracked, dry cuticles? Coconut oil to the rescue! Damaged cuticles can be painful, not to mention look pretty unsightly. Our favourite oil will moisturise the cuticle while nutrients will strengthen the nail bed. Simply massage a little into your hands and focus on each individual cuticle separately.

For an intensive overnight treatment, massage into your hands and then put gloves while you sleep. Say hello to soft hands in the morning

Protect your tresses

Summertime tip! Before you hit the pool or the surf, massage coconut oil into the ends of your hair. This will stop the chlorine or salt drying out your hair which results in brittle split ends.

Intense conditioning treatment

Coconut oil is amazing for hair. Packed with natural antioxidants and nutrients like vitamin E, vitamin K and iron, it keeps your hair super soft. Which is exactly why we use it in our Kelapa Organics Coconut Oil Shampoo and Conditioner!

For an intensive conditioning treatment, massage coconut oil through damp, clean hair from the scalp to the tips. Plait your hair or secure it loosely and then sleep with your head on a towel overnight. This is especially beneficial if your hair is particularly damaged from heat styling.

Use it to highlight your cheekbones

Coconut oil is great as a natural highlighter to add a healthy looking shimmer to your complexion. Just dab a little along your cheekbones being mindful not to go overboard. There’s a fine line between a healthy glow and an oil slick! You can use coconut oil to set your usual highlighter too; check out this quick tutorial.

A healthy smile

Oil pulling with coconut oil can transform your dental health by reducing bad bacteria in your mouth. While it does take time, if you commit to this practice that has been associated with Ayurveda, the traditional medicine system from India, you’ll reap the benefits.

It’s simple, put a tablespoon of oil in your mouth and swish it around for 20 minutes like a mouthwash. Spit it out, rinse with water and follow by brushing your teeth.

Remove fake tan

Fake tan didn’t go to plan? Combine 1 cup of coconut oil and 1 cup of sea salt to create a natural solution for removing fake tan. Lather up a loofah with the mixture and massage into the skin where there is an excessive buildup of fake tan then rinse off. Be gentle and stick with this for 2 - 3 days and see the tan fade.
